Master of Science in Criminology and Criminal Justice (MSCJ)
Whether you pursue a master’s in criminology online, on campus or in a combination of both, you’ll take courses from our faculty of expert researchers, benefiting from individualized mentorship. Our students engage with complex issues at the local, state, federal, and international levels, exploring multiple perspectives on the criminal justice process and delving into topics such as victimology, security management, psychology, incarceration, and juvenile law.
You can customize the master’s in criminal justice curriculum by choosing from an array of electives. The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice offers guidance and support for cooperative education (co-op) experiences, helping to find full-time placements in organizations such as law offices, federal agencies, political campaigns, police departments, and research centers. In addition, many graduate students make valuable contributions to our highly collaborative scholarly community by joining multigenerational research teams.
Some of the unique opportunities available in Northeastern’s master’s in criminology and criminal justice include:
- A Cybersecurity concentration offered in conjunction with the Khoury College of Computer Sciences that provides the technical skills professionals need to build a career in this rapidly growing field

About the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (SCCJ)
The SCCJ prepares students for professional and research careers in criminal justice, criminology, and related fields by applying multidisciplinary and comparative social science to understand, predict, and explain crime. Our work contributes to the development of public policy within urban communities.
Using an active learning approach, the SCCJ seeks to develop students intellectually and ethically. They learn a keen appreciation for the complexities of crime and for public and private efforts to make communities safer and ensure justice.
